Course Description:


This is the first in a three-course series which, together, are designed for those who are learning to teach high school biology. This is a rigorous chemistry course that builds upon foundational topics in physics and chemistry, pulling them together to represent a capstone of science education. Topics include chemistry and chemical bonds, energy and entropy, origins of life, chemistry of life, membranes, and enzymes.

Course Description


This is the second in a three-course series which, together, are designed for those who are learning to teach high school biology. This is a rigorous biology course looks closely at prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and delves into their functions. Topics include prokaryotes, eukaryotes, energy processing, gene expression and protein synthesis, mitosis and meiosis, Mendelian genetics, and non-Mendelian genetics.

Course Description:


This is the third in a three-course series which, together, are designed for those who are learning to teach high school biology. This is a rigorous biology course looks closely at how organisms function together and they systems of the human body. Topics include evolution, classification, the biosphere, ecosystems, and anatomy and physiology.


Prerequisite:  BIOL6481, BIOL6482

This course is intended to bridge the gap between what is learned in initial biology courses and what

is needed to succeed on the Praxis exam. Topics include scientific inquiry, scientific methods, cell

signaling, DNA & RNA structure, central dogma, regulating gene expression, and biotechnology.

This is the fourth in a four-course series which, together, are designed for those who are learning to teach AP Biology. This is a rigorous course that builds upon foundational topics in physics and chemistry, pulling them together to show how these fuel biological processes. Topics include biotechnology, evolution, population genetics, phylogeny, biosphere, ecosystems, populations & communities and biodiversity & disruptions.


Number of Credits: 3

This course prepares teachers for their Biology credentialing exam (i.e. Praxis, CSET, etc). It

includes 6 modules, each containing problem solving notebooks, with embedded review; mastery

questions with solutions; a discussion board, where questions are addressed by certified instructors; and

a unit test. A 7th module includes two full length Praxis/CSET-style tests.



If this is the only course you are taking to prepare for the credentialing exam it is also suggested that you become an NJCTL Member so that you have access to the other biology courses to review the content more as you work through this course.
